Types of flooring in home: |
There are five types of flooring which may be suitable for bathrooms. In fact focus on how to use bathroom to determine the type of bathroom flooring. |
1.Ceramic Tile Flooring |
2.Mosaic Tile Flooring |
3.Vinyl Tile Flooring |
4.Stone Tile Flooring |
5.Laminate Flooring |
Bathroom flooring should be impervious to water and easily washable and disinfected. |
If you're living in a colder climate, one of the most luxurious treatments you can do with your bathroom flooring is heated tile. |
This feature is available with most ceramic, slate, granite, and stone tiles. |
For bathroom tile selections, don't forget to look beyond colors to consider texture and tile dimensions. |
1. Ceramic Tile Flooring: |
One of the best idea for bathroom tiles is to use ceramic tiles for flooring since they are more durable, easy to clean, resistant to dampness and do not become too slippery when wet |
But you must take care to choose slip-resistant surface in ceramic tiles for bathroom safety. |
These tiles come in sizes of 4"x4" and 2'x2', |
They have a wide variety of shapes such as octagonal and hexagonal. |
2. Mosaic Tile Flooring: |
Mosaic tiles come in pre-mounted plastic mesh sheets so you don't have to set each tile individually. |
These tiles are cleaned up easily and resist even standing pools of water. |
They have a disadvantage like stone as they are cold. |
Also, they can be slippery. But texturing solves that problem. |
The smaller tiles are less slippery because more grout which acts as non-skid surface is used with these tiles. |
3. Vinyl Tile Flooring: |
Vinyl is the most popular choice for bathroom flooring for several reasons. |
It can be installed by oneself. |
There are thousands of style options. |
Vinyl tiles are cheap. |
No matter how attractive the style and texturing is, it still looks like vinyl. |
Vinyl flooring is usually laid over particleboard which soaks water like a sponge. |
Disadvantage: |
One of the disadvantages of vinyl tiles is that after a while they tend to come up. |
Sheet vinyl is the solution to this problem but sheet vinyl is more difficult to install one self. |
4. Stone Tile Flooring: |
This flooring has no moisture problems with marble, granite, limestone, and the other stone flooring options. |
Stone is a mid-level, not at the top level because of a number of issues: |
a) It is cold. |
b) It tends to be slippery. |
This can be solved by having the stone textured, sand blasting or by purchasing naturally textured stone such as slate. |
Stone flooring is the most expensive flooring option. |
5. Laminate Flooring: |
Surprisingly, laminate flooring is a better bathroom flooring choice than solid hardwood because: |
It has a wear layer of melamine and this wear layer is amazingly strong. |
The joints are glued together and it is difficult for moisture to enter downwards. |
Laminate is easy to clean. |
But laminate still has that wood chip base. |
If laminate is in contact with moisture it will expand, bubble and the only way to fix is to tear it out. |
